STAAR Testing Information

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) tests are quickly approaching and I wanted to share our plans with you. The state requires all STAAR tests to be taken in person regardless of current learning location.

Safety Protocols

Remote learners reporting to campus for this test will be in a testing area separate from in person learners with strict safety protocols in place. We will not be joining our remote and in person learners on days when they are both on campus.

  • All learners and staff will practice social distancing and remain 6 feet apart.
  • All learners and staff will wear a mask at all times and practice good hygiene (hand washing, sanitizing, cleaning of work surfaces and chairs, etc.)
  • All learners may be picked up as soon as their testing is complete. Parents will let us know if they will leave learners in school the entire day or pick them up after testing on the google form mentioned below.

Attendance & Requirements

We respect your decision to continue to participate in remote instruction and not come to school on STAAR testing dates, recognizing that in making that decision, your child will not be participating in his or her STAAR assessment for grades 6-8. Please be assured that not participating in a STAAR assessment in grades 6-8 does not affect promotion or retention decisions. If your child is in Algebra 1 and takes the end-of-course (EOC)- this remains a graduation requirement and learners will need to take and pass this test in order to graduate.

  • I will send a google form for each test administration so that families can share with us their plans for testing days to aid in our planning. I have already sent the first of these to all 7th grade families for 7th grade Writing on April 6th, 2021.

Important Note for Parents

To keep as few learners gathered together as possible on each testing day, WHEN YOUR LEARNER IS NOT TESTING, THEY WILL BE A REMOTE LEARNER. These will still be school days with learners expected to participate in class remotely and complete all work.

Example: For 7th grade Writing on April 6th- only 7th grade learners testing will be here in person. 6th and 8th grade learners will be remote learners on that day.

If you are unable to keep your learner home, we can make arrangements for them to work remotely on course work from CMS West. You'll need to indicate this on your google form.

Please see below for information on which days your learners will need to be in person and which days they will need to be remote.
