Parent Update - August 7, 2020

North Families,

I wanted to provide you with some updates as we continue to prepare for the 2020-2021 school year. We sincerely appreciate your patience as we work through these processes. 

School Supplies

The first week of school will focus on social and emotional learning, community building, and getting to know learners. We will also use this week to coordinate school supply pick up for remote learners. If you have purchased school supplies and opted for remote learning, we will be providing details about how to pick up some supplies to get the school year started. More supplies will be distributed as the year proceeds. This will be a coordinated effort with the CMS North PTO.

Remote Learning and Video Chat Consent Form

During the next three weeks, all learners will be engaged in remote learning. Please complete the CMSN Video Chat Consent Form to give your child permission to participate in the educator-led video chats. (Link: https://forms.gle/zReNxLecRNBaCHxw8)

Technology Update

In order for the district to effectively implement distance learning, it is important that the district-owned devices currently checked out to your child(ren) are in good working order. The best way to ensure this is the case is for you to look over the iPad(s) currently in your home. Please examine your student’s checked-out iPad(s) as well as the charging brick and cord. Please plug in the device and make sure it will charge. Also, check the functionality of the touch screen by logging into the device once charged. Learners who will be attending in-person, will school supplies available in the classroom.

If there is an issue causing the device to not function properly, please submit a Helpdesk ticket. Once a help ticket has been created, our Technology team will contact you to make an appointment to have the device repaired or replaced. Examples of issues that need to be brought to our attention would be a cracked screen or a loss of functionality. Since these iPads are not new, they will have normal wear and tear such as light scratches. Please do not contact us about these issues at this time.

If we do not hear from you by Friday, August 14, we will understand the iPad has been examined and is in working order.

In addition, The technology department is currently contacting every student (new and returning) who does not have a device checked out in our electronic inventory system to schedule a time to issue them a device if needed.
