North News - August 28, 2020

North Families,

Thank you for a great second week of school! We had a busy day on Wednesday with our supply pick up event. I appreciate your flexibility and patience as we distributed school supplies, art supplies, P.E uniforms, and PTO spirit wear. Thank you to our wonderful PTO and North staff for helping with this event. Here are some important announcements as we enter the third week of school.

Important Zoom Update

Starting Monday, August 31st, CISD will be requiring all learners to sign into Zoom using their CISD email address. This change will allow for better classroom management and will limit disruptions in the event the meeting link is shared to people outside of the district.

If your child is using a Zoom account not associated with their CISD email address, the next time they sign in, they will need to use their CISD login information — or —  to join the meeting. We have created documentation for signing into Zoom with their CISD login information, which can be found here:

If your child is already using their CISD email address to sign into Zoom, they will need to consolidate their account to be managed by the district. We have created documentation for consolidating the Zoom account, which can be found here:

iPad Device Protection Plan

The district is encouraging families to pay a $25 non-refundable annual fee for the CISD Device Protection Plan for their child’s school-issued iPads. (New Tech High @ Coppell families are encouraged to pay a $40 non-refundable annual fee for the CISD Device Protection Plan for their child’s school-issued Macbooks.)  If you choose to not pay for the CISD Device Protection Plan, you will be responsible for the full cost of repairs or replacement of the device. Middle and High School families, please visit for details. Elementary families, please visit for information. You can visit to pay for the Device Protection Plan. If this fee creates a financial hardship, please contact your campus administration or counselor for alternative arrangements.

School PPE Video

In case you haven’t yet seen it, here is our School PPE video at, so you can see how schools will look on Tuesday, Sept. 8, when the in person option begins for those that chose it.  Our Return to School Guide and Frequently Asked Questions at also have details on in person learning.

Parent Notification of SSI Initiative

The SSI requires that grade 5 and grade 8 students meet the passing standards on STAAR tests in mathematics and reading before they can be promoted to the next grade; however, this requirement  has been waived for the 2020–2021 school year due to the current health crisis. Students enrolled in grades 5 and 8 are still required to take each STAAR test once in May 2021. Retest opportunities will not be provided this year. Our district will have local discretion on whether students who do not pass the STAAR should advance to the next grade, just like students in grades 3, 4, 6, and 7. These decisions will be based on local criteria that reflect a student’s academic achievement and mastery of subject matter and will include STAAR assessment results, along with other relevant information. Please read the full letter here.

Virtual Tutoring Hub

We are happy to share that the CMSN Tutoring Hub opens on Monday, August 31st. That means that your student can now access tutoring with our teachers in each of the core content areas every afternoon (3:40pm-4:10pm) via Zoom. Learners will access the Virtual Tutoring Hub via a link in Schoology.  We hope to see them there!

Thank you,
