Dear CISD Parents and Staff,

I want to take a moment to address an important topic that has garnered attention and concern – the accountability rating system in Texas. The rating system has been a significant discussion point in our education landscape. Accountability ratings provide one perspective on school performance; they do not fully capture the exceptional dedication and commitment of our educators, staff, and students.

As the lawsuit against the Texas Education Agency (TEA) over the A-F ratings continues, TEA is releasing some accountability data results related to the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) today for districts and schools. As an organization committed to continuous improvement, we will utilize this data, along with the various other metrics we regularly track, to drive our instructional methods and operational efficiency forward.

The four core values in Coppell ISD — collective engagement, great teaching, authentic relationships and redefining success — are the foundation of our work. We believe our students are more than one test on one day. Additionally, Coppell ISD gauges progress and pinpoints areas for growth within our district through a Community-Based Accountability System (CBAS). We firmly uphold the belief that education extends beyond standardized testing outcomes — our students are more than one test on one day. Our mission is to cultivate a comprehensive, enriching and supportive learning environment that nurtures the holistic development of each student. We aspire for our students to undergo a complete educational experience, emphasizing not only academics but also athletics, fine arts, service, community engagement and more.

Devoted to fostering creativity, critical thinking, character development and a passion for learning that transcends test scores, we are committed to a broader definition of success. Acknowledging the uniqueness of every student, our educators work diligently to address individual needs, applaud strengths and aid in areas that require growth. Our genuine measure of success lies in the accomplishments of our students, the positive contributions they make to our community and the enduring values they carry into their adult lives.

You can learn more about our Community-Based Accountability System at www.coppellisd.com/page/community-based-accountability-system-cbas and access the 2023 CBAS Annual Report here.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership with Coppell ISD, as we learn, grow and celebrate our students and staff. In Coppell ISD, we are making our mission possible every day for every child.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brad Hunt
