Dear CISD Community, 

As part of our continued commitment to transparency throughout the budget planning process to address the fiscal challenges facing our district, I want to share this video from myself and our CISD Board of Trustees President, David Caviness. In this video, we share background on why our budget challenges and how we are working to increase revenue and decrease expenses, while continuing to provide a high quality education for our students.    

I also want an update on the Board Workshop on the Budget held on Monday, April 8, at 5:30 pm in the CISD Board Room. At the start of the workshop, it was announced that CHS Associate Principal Zane Porter will become the Principal of New Tech High @ Coppell beginning in the 2024-2025 school year.

During the workshop, Trustees heard updates and discussed the following topics:

• April 2024 Demographer’s Report

• Budget Dialogue Feedback Results both from the online survey and the April 3 Budget Community Dialogue event

• Announced that there will be a Facebook Live Update on the 2023 Bond, Budget and Strategic Planning on Wednesday, May 1, at 6:30 p.m. 

• Shared how CISD is working to address budget challenges

• More information on a possible Voter-Approval Tax Ratification Election (VATRE) process, including a timeline and potential revenue generation, should Trustees decide to pursue this option for CISD

• An update on the CISD Open Enrollment program with a recommendation for possible expansion to the Hackberry Creek neighborhood

• Historical adopted budget vs. actual results analysis

• Reports on Pre-K funding, cost per campus and campus capacities

• An update on attendance, including the district’s “Attendance Matters” campaign that ran in the late fall and early spring and

• A report on district staff added since 2017-18

As you can see, a lot of data and information is being shared with our Board and community during this budget process.
