On Constitution Day Sept. 17, Town Center Elementary fourth graders in Beth Parker’s class deepened their understanding of history through hands-on social studies activities centered on the U.S. Constitution. Before beginning, students designed their own flags, including one learner who created a replica of the Constitution. Students then rotated through stations where they completed a Preamble Scramble, explored key ideas from the Constitution and even wrote their own personal classroom constitution. The lesson connected Constitution Day to the fourth-grade social studies curriculum, while giving learners meaningful opportunities to explore the history, principles, rights and responsibilities that shape our nation.
