Texas’ First LEED® Gold Certified Elementary
Richard J. Lee is now LEED® Gold certified by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED®, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. To receive LEED certification, building projects satisfy pre-requisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. Certified buildings save money and resources and have a positive impact on the health of occupants, while promoting renewable, clean energy. Lee was designed by Stantec, in partnership with the Coppell ISD, and was built to be high-performing and energy efficient. The building’s design features recycled materials, solar panels, a wind turbine, geothermal HVAC system, rain water collection, LED lights and more - which all equates to lower energy, water and material usage. In addition, the sustainable features are used as educational tools for learners across Coppell ISD, making the building itself a resource for learning.
