Students across multiple grade levels showcased their language skills in this year’s CISD Spanish Spelling Bee, with winners now advancing to regional competition. The third-grade bee featured eight participants from Denton Creek Elementary and went 15 rounds, ending with the winning word “derecho.” Amalia Gennari claimed first place, and Allison Alonso Perez was runner-up. In the fourth- and fifth-grade competition, 17 students competed over 14 rounds. The winning word was “verbo,” and fifth-grader Elizabeth Castillo — a previous winner in 2023-24 — earned first place. Fourth-grader Julian Maucher finished as runner-up. The sixth- through eighth-grade bee included 20 participants and concluded after seven rounds with the winning word “derecho.” Sixth-grader Sophia Wilkins took first place, and sixth-grader Ana Paula Trujeque earned runner-up honors. Congratulations to all participants. Amalia, Elizabeth and Sophia will represent the district at the Region 10 Spanish Spelling Bee on March 25.
