The Coppell ISD Board of Trustees recognized outstanding educators, reviewed student achievement and curriculum updates, and continued planning for future facilities and funding during its April 27 regular meeting.

During Board Awards, trustees honored 14 educators who earned the RISE Distinguished Educator designation for creating high-quality learning environments for multilingual learners. Those recognized represented campuses across the district, reflecting a systemwide commitment to student success.

Trustees also recognized the Spring 2026 Great Employees Who Matter (GEM) award recipients, highlighting staff members from departments and campuses throughout the district for their contributions to student learning and district operations.

In addition, the board welcomed new leadership, introducing Chief Operations Officer Randy Fite and Valley Ranch Elementary Principal Sheryl Dennehy.

Trustees received multiple academic and curriculum updates tied to House Bill 3 goals, including progress in early childhood literacy and math, as well as college, career and military readiness (CCMR). District data showed growth in reading and math achievement, alongside expanded professional learning focused on high-quality instruction, small-group teaching strategies and the science of reading.

The board also reviewed updates to Career and Technical Education programs, including alignment with industry-based certifications,new middle school course offerings and the drone and aviation pathway at New Tech High @ Coppell.

An update on Senate Bill 568 highlighted intervention services and special education, including efforts to address disproportionality, expand inclusive practices and support early childhood learners. District leaders reported continued growth in College, Career and Military readiness outcomes for students receiving special education services.

Looking ahead, trustees discussed preliminary planning for a potential 2027 Bond, including recommendations from the Property/Facilities Advisory Committee. The committee advised maintaining current uses of facilities such as Pinkerton and the former New Tech campus while monitoring enrollment trends and financial conditions. Preliminary options for the possible future bond include life-cycle projects and replacements for the district’s facilities, as well as technology infrastructure and device replacements. 

The board also approved several action items, including the issuance of Coppell ISD Unlimited Tax School Building and Refunding Bonds Series 2026, which is part of the 2023 Bond; authorization of bond defeasance; instructional materials allotment certification; library materials recommendations; and monthly financial reports.
