Valley Ranch Elementary has named Sam Bernal as assistant principal for the 2026-2027 school year, bringing more than a decade of experience in bilingual education and school leadership to the Valley Ranch community.

Bernal earned a bachelor's degree in history from Texas State University and began his career in education teaching a self-contained third-grade bilingual class at T.J. Lee Elementary in Irving ISD. He later taught fifth-grade bilingual science at Schulze Elementary before earning a master's degree in educational leadership from Southern Methodist University. Since then, he has served in both assistant principal and principal roles.

"We are thrilled to welcome Sam Bernal to Valley Ranch Elementary," said Principal Sheryl Dennehy. "His passion for student success, commitment to building strong relationships with families and staff, and extensive experience as both a teacher and administrator make him an outstanding addition to our leadership team. We look forward to the positive impact he will have on our students and school community."

Bernal said he is excited to join the Valley Ranch community and begin building relationships with students, staff and families.

"I am honored to join Valley Ranch Elementary and become part of such a strong school community," Bernal said. "I look forward to partnering with families, supporting teachers and helping every student thrive as a Valley Ranch Star."

Outside of school, Bernal enjoys spending time with his wife, Lacey, and their two sons, Miles, 4, and Jonathan, 11 months. His family is especially excited about the move, as Miles will attend Valley Ranch Elementary as a student next year. Bernal is also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoys off-road adventures in his Jeep.

Valley Ranch Elementary families will have opportunities to meet Bernal before the start of the school year as he begins transitioning into his new role.
