During the April 13 Board Workshop, CISD Trustees received an early preview of the 2026-2027 budget, which currently projects a $2.4 million deficit. This amount has been significantly reduced through zero-based staffing, continued evaluation of enrollment and class sections, and position reductions achieved through attrition and the early resignation incentive program. The workshop presentation noted more than $8 million in reductions since February, while maintaining all programming and identifying operational efficiencies. Additional factors that could affect the budget in the coming months include enrollment shifts, special education funding changes, fuel costs, tax rate calculations and a possible 2% cost-of-living increase for district employees.

Trustees also reviewed an update on the upcoming 2023 Bond renovation at Austin Elementary, including a new design for the renovation that differs from the renovations at Valley Ranch and Lakeside elementaries. The new Austin Elementary plan includes a large, flexible learning and work space designed to support current instructional and staff/district professional learning needs.

The Board also received a brief update on the $1,000 TASB Risk Management Scholarship process.
