AUSTIN ELEMENTARY

This week, Lakeside Elementary second graders brought Social Studies to life as they researched historical landmarks. Students selected landmarks they were unfamiliar with, and the learners then became researchers as they used books, digital resources and other classroom tools to gather information, discover interesting facts and determine what makes each landmark historically or culturally significant. They then transformed their research into written work and illustrations, combining Social Studies, reading, research, writing and visual arts to demonstrate their learning. This hands-on experience gives students an opportunity to build curiosity, practice information literacy and communicate what they discover, while also developing a deeper understanding of the significance of the landmarks they chose.
