Coppell ISD is proud to announce 47 National Merit Semifinalists for the 2025-2026 school year, with 45 hailing from Coppell High School and two from New Tech High @ Coppell. This incredible achievement places CHS as the high school with the most semifinalists in North Texas and as the high school tied for the second-highest number of National Merit Semifinalists in the state of Texas, according to the 2026 National Merit Semifinalist Scholarship Program. Westwood High School in Round Rock ISD had 63 semifinalists, and the Liberal Arts and Science Academy in Austin ISD also had 45 semifinalists.

Being named a National Merit Semifinalist is a significant honor and a testament to a student's outstanding academic progress and success. Selection is based on student scores on the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

National Merit Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. At Coppell High School, 45 students earned this prestigious honor, making up 4.5 percent of the senior class of 1,006, which is more than four times the national average.

“I am so proud of our kids,” said CHS Principal Laura Springer. “They’re truly some of the brightest students in Texas, and they’re also kind, well-rounded and full of Cowboy grit. These students work hard, support one another and show every day what it means to be a Coppell Cowboy.”

At New Tech High @ Coppell, two students were named National Merit Semifinalists, representing three percent of the school’s senior class of 65, which is three times the national average.

“This recognition affirms the academic rigor and quality of a New Tech education,” said Principal Zane Porter. “Our project-based learning model not only challenges students intellectually, but also equips them with leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills that prepare them for successful futures.”
