After taking additional time this evening to evaluate road conditions, school parking lots, and bus routes, Coppell ISD has decided to close schools and administration buildings on Thursday, Jan. 29, out of an abundance of caution. Due to this closure, parents and guardians are exempt from submitting a School Absence Note for Jan. 26–29.
Although conditions are improving, ice remains on many of CISD neighborhood streets, sidewalks, parking lots and shaded areas. These conditions continue to pose safety risks for buses, drivers, students, staff, and families, especially during morning travel when many students walk or bike to school.
Coppell ISD plans to apply for a waiver from the state to cover the missed days due to the weather. If granted, the district will not have to use its Bad Weather days to cover school closings. CISD will keep our community updated on this process as it develops.
