The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released its 2026 A–F Accountability Ratings for public schools across Texas today (Aug. 14, 2026). Coppell ISD received an A rating.

Coppell ISD celebrates the accomplishments reflected in the state accountability results while also using the data to identify opportunities for continued growth. The district believes accountability is important, and also believes the success of a student, school or district cannot be defined by a single rating.

“Our students are more than one test score on one day,” Superintendent Dr. Leanne Shivers said. “We are proud of the successes reflected in our state accountability results, and we will use the areas identified for growth to continue getting better. But exceptional educational experiences happen every day in our classrooms, fine arts programs, athletic fields, CTE programs, clubs and organizations, and in the relationships our educators build with students. Those experiences matter, too, and we believe they should be measured.”

Texas’ A–F Accountability System evaluates districts and campuses in three areas: Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps. State assessments, including STAAR, play a significant role in those calculations, while other measures such as graduation rates and college, career and military readiness (CCMR) are also included for applicable campuses. CISD’s CCMR score was 91%, up from 86% last year and 83% the year before, meaning that our 2025 graduates were ready for college, career and the military. 

Coppell ISD uses those state measures as one important source of information but not the only one.

Measuring What Matters

Coppell ISD has long been committed to its Community-Based Accountability System (CBAS), which provides a more comprehensive view of how the district is serving students, families, staff and the community. CBAS allows CISD to look beyond state accountability measures and evaluate success and areas for growth across seven pillars:

• Student Learning and Progress

• Student Readiness

• Engaged and Well-Rounded Students

• Community Engagement and Partnerships

• Professional Learning and Quality Staff

• Safety and Well-Being

• Fiscal and Operational Systems

These measures are aligned with Coppell ISD’s four Core Values, including Great Teaching, Collective Engagement, Authentic Relationships and Redefining Success, and reflect what the Coppell ISD community has identified as important indicators of a successful school system.

“State accountability gives us one lens through which to look at our schools. CBAS helps us widen that lens,” Shivers said. “It allows us to ask bigger questions: Are our students growing? Are they prepared for what comes next? Do they feel connected and supported? Are they participating in meaningful experiences? Are we attracting and developing exceptional educators? Are our schools safe? Are we being responsible stewards of taxpayer resources? When we talk about accountability in Coppell ISD, we want to measure what truly matters.”

“Our goal is not simply to earn a letter grade,” Shivers said. “Our goal is to know every student, challenge every student and provide exceptional educational experiences every day for every student. We will celebrate what is working, be honest about where we need to grow and continue working together to make Coppell ISD stronger.”
