Story by Victory Place @ Coppell Assistant Principal Kat Yegge.
Congratulations to Dylan Fletcher, who graduated from Turning Point at Victory Place @ Coppell on Oct. 7, more than seven months ahead of his original May 2027 graduation date. Dylan was able to take part in Turning Point’s accelerated learning program, which allows students to earn credits quicker than traditional school.
“Turning Point is for kids who want to get ahead in life or who are behind and want to catch up,” Dylan said. “Turning Point showed me that if you put in a lot of work, you get a lot of results. At other schools, you can put in a lot of work and you’re still going to graduate in May, but at Turning Point, you're going to graduate a lot quicker.”
Turning Point at Victory Place @ Coppell is a program for current CHS or New Tech High @ Coppell earners who would like to accelerate their learning and/or for learners who have circumstances that prevent them from being successful in a traditional school setting. Turning Point provides learners with an opportunity to succeed in a non-traditional school setting that primarily uses an online curriculum. Turning Point offers a positive option to larger secondary school settings, where learners work at an accelerated pace on an individualized curriculum to achieve a high school diploma and to prepare for their next step in life, whether it is college, workforce, specialized training, military, etc.
At the graduation ceremony last week, Dylan served as the guest speaker and received the Genius Award, which recognizes learners who exemplify the values of citizenship, dedication, and responsibility. His math teacher, Avery Kinney, praised Dylan for his strong work ethic, independence, and positive impact on the classroom community. Throughout his time at Turning Point, Dylan consistently took ownership of his learning, used his time wisely, and showed kindness and consideration toward his peers.
Dylan is already looking ahead to his future. He has already started Dallas College and plans on transferring to the University of North Texas to pursue a degree in Business Management. In the meantime, he is working at a local store, using his earnings to invest in the stock market.
