Coppell Independent School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Emily Camarena as the district’s new Executive Director of Human Resources, effective July 2026. Dr. Camarena will succeed Karen Duke, who is retiring after years of dedicated service to Coppell ISD.
Dr. Camarena brings extensive experience in human resources, talent management, organizational leadership and workforce development. She currently serves as Executive Director of Talent Management for Fort Worth ISD, where she oversees district staffing strategies, recruitment initiatives, talent pipelines and human resources operations. In her role, she has led innovative partnerships with universities and community organizations, advised executive leadership on staffing and workforce planning, and implemented data-driven strategies to strengthen recruitment and retention efforts.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Camarena to Coppell ISD,” said Superintendent Dr. Leanne Shivers. “Her experience in attracting, developing and supporting exceptional employees aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing the very best educational experience for students. Dr. Camarena is a collaborative leader who understands the critical role people play in organizational success, and we are confident she will continue to strengthen our culture of excellence.”
Dr. Camarena holds a Doctor of Education degree from East Texas A&M University, a Master of Educational Leadership from The University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor of Exercise Science from Texas State University. She also holds Superintendent and Principal certifications.

Dr. Camarena brings a wealth of experience to Coppell ISD, having served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal and Human Resources administrator.
