October 6, 2025
Dear CISD Community,
Tonight, the CISD Board of Trustees asked the district administration to move forward with the Cowboys United Plan and delayed taking action on Campus Consolidation and Boundary Realignment.
The School Board encouraged district administration to begin work on the Cowboys United plan which is a strategic, district-wide initiative aimed at reinforcing CISD’s identity as a “destination district” and ensuring long-term sustainability. It includes a marketing campaign under the tagline “We are the CHOICE” to build community spirit and shared identity, data-driven efforts to retain and recruit families through surveys and focus groups, expansion of innovative elementary “choice” programs beginning in 2027-2028, and expanding limited open enrollment opportunities for nearby neighborhoods, grandparents and alumni.
As shared at the October 6 Board Meeting, the CISD School Board believes that it is in the best interest of the district to delay taking action on campus consolidation and boundary realignment. This will allow the Board to evaluate all facets of the recommendations in order to make the best decision for the future of the district and its students. The recommendations will be discussed with possible action at a board meeting in the coming weeks.
We know the decision to consolidate an elementary school carries a deep impact for our families, students and staff. Our schools are more than buildings — they are places filled with memories, relationships and community. Change of this nature is not easy, and we recognize the emotions it brings. At the same time, CISD is working to address a significant budget deficit while ensuring we remain focused on what is best for our students, both now and in the years to come.
This is a challenging time, but together, I believe we can face these difficulties and continue to focus on providing the best educational experience possible for our students. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Sincerely,
David Caviness
CISD Board President
