The CHS Cowgirls track and field team continued its historic postseason by winning the UIL 6A Region 1 Championship at University of Texas at Arlington last weekend, claiming the regional title by nine points after already earning district and area championships this season. Six Cowgirl athletes qualified in five events for the UIL State Meet in Austin on May 16, highlighted by regional titles from Ainsley Bramer in shot put with a throw of 46-11, Mia Schuller in pole vault at 11-9 and Sophia Williams in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.65. Williams also placed second in the 100-meter dash at 11.66, while the 4x100 relay team of Ella Corry, Hannah Polito, Janiah Merritt and Sophia Williams captured first place in 45.93 and set a new school record. Additional top performances included Avery Easterling placing fourth in shot put at 42-4, Maya Easterwood taking fourth in the 3200-meter run in 10:43, Taylor Davis finishing fifth in high jump at 5-4, Da’Nyah Gilmore placing eighth in high jump at 5-2, Vivian Pargas earning 10th in pole vault at 10-0, and the 4x200 relay team of Janiah Merritt, Bailey Johnson, Ella Corry and Hannah Polito finishing sixth in 1:39.38. The Cowboys also celebrated Noah Schuller, who won the regional pole vault title to qualify for the state meet. Congratulations to all of the student-athletes and coaches Landon Wren and Eric Hill on an outstanding season and postseason run.
