The Coppell ISD Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Doug Williams as Interim Superintendent, effective June 1, 2025. Mr. Williams will assume the role following the retirement of Dr. Brad Hunt, who is stepping down after 35 years of dedicated service in public education. Dr. Hunt will remain with the district as Superintendent Emeritus through August 2025 to support a seamless leadership transition.
Mr. Williams brings nearly four decades of experience in Texas public education. He began his career in 1987 as a classroom teacher and coach and moved into school administration in 1999. Most notably, he served as Superintendent of Sunnyvale ISD for 16 years, where he led the district through transformative growth and rapid change.
Mr. Williams shared, "During my years as superintendent in Sunnyvale, I was always impressed by the Coppell ISD approach to education. Because I share many of the district's core beliefs about education, I am excited about the opportunity to assist the district during the time of transition to new leadership. I look forward to getting started."
In 2021-2022, Mr. Williams served as President of the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA), where he was a respected voice for school leaders across the state. His tenure included leading efforts in school finance reform, advocating for local accountability, and supporting districts navigating the challenges of post-pandemic recovery. He continues to serve as a TASA Executive Superintendent and executive coach, guiding school districts through today’s challenges.
“Doug Williams is a proven leader who brings a breadth of experience, a deep understanding of public education, and a passion for student-centered learning,” said Board President David Caviness. “We are confident he will provide steady leadership and meaningful support during this important transition.”
Mr. Williams and his wife, Kris, reside in Sunnyvale. They have three children, Emily, Caleb and Olivia, and four grandchildren.
Dr. Brad Hunt, who has served as Superintendent of Coppell ISD since 2017, began his journey in the district as a teacher in 1990. His leadership, vision and commitment have left a lasting legacy within the district.
