For Hogan Maxwell, a New Tech High @ Coppell Class of 2025 graduate, success isn’t defined by a traditional college path. It’s measured by hard work, hands-on experience, and a deep passion for auto mechanics. Maxwell will head to Universal Technical Institute this fall to pursue a career as an automotive and diesel technician, a decision fueled by years of curiosity, determination and support from mentors who recognized his unique path.
“I’ve always been fascinated by how things work, especially anything with moving parts,” Maxwell shared. “But the moment it became real for me was when I worked on my truck — replacing spark plugs that hadn’t been touched since 1997. That’s when I knew this was more than a hobby. It was my future.”
To fulfill his Business Practicum class requirements at New Tech, Maxwell completed an internship at Sam Pack Ford in Carrollton, where he was mentored by Alex Sagcal. The real-world experience gave him a firsthand look at the automotive industry and helped solidify his career goals.
“Alex and the team at Sam Pack really welcomed me and gave me the space to learn,” Maxwell said. “I got to see how a professional shop operates, and it confirmed for me that this is where I want to be.”
Maxwell also credits his business teacher Marieke Mastebroek for encouraging him to explore trade school as a legitimate and valuable path. “Ms. Mastebroek helped me see that success doesn’t look the same for everyone. She supported my decision 100% and showed me how to turn my passion into a career.”
This mindset aligns with CISD’s core value of redefining success: We value each individual's contribution, because success can be different for everyone.
Maxwell’s vision for the future is clear. “In five years, I see myself working as a mechanic, gaining experience and building my skills. In ten years, I hope to be a master technician — and maybe even starting a family. I know it won’t always be easy, but this is what I love, and I’m ready for it.”
As Maxwell takes the next step in his journey, he leaves behind a powerful reminder for his peers — success is not one-size-fits-all. Sometimes, it’s under the hood of a truck, with grease-stained hands and a dream fueled by passion.
Congratulations, Hogan Maxwell —you’re truly built for this road ahead.
