Newcomer

On Sept. 26, Coppell ISD’s Department of ESL and Bilingual Services hosted its fall Newcomer Community Bus Tour, welcoming families who have lived in the district for two years or less, including some who recently arrived within the past month. The daylong event began at Coppell High School with greetings from new Superintendent Dr. Leanne Shivers, CISD leaders and Board President David Caviness and included safety briefings from the Coppell Police Department. Families then met Mayor Wes Mays at Town Hall, toured the Cozby Library, hiked at the Biodiversity Center and visited Life Safety Park for hands-on safety activities. Guided by CISD Language Acquisition Specialists, the twice-yearly tour helps connect new families with community resources, local leaders and opportunities for engagement.
