A group of Coppell High School Eco Club students stands behind a green table at an outdoor event under a white canopy. A sign on the front of the table reads “REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE” with a recycling symbol. Clear bins on the table are labeled for items such as makeup, plastic film, batteries, electronics, and markers. A green “Coppell High School” banner is displayed behind the group, with buildings and grass visible in the background.

The Coppell High School Eco Club is the 2026 Texas Environmental Excellence Award (TEEA) Youth winner, recognizing the student-led organization’s measurable and lasting impact on environmental stewardship. With more than 100 active members and a structured leadership model, the Eco Club leads year-round efforts to reduce waste, conserve resources, and engage students in sustainable action both on campus and in the surrounding community. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will recognize the Eco Club during the annual awards banquet at the Bullock Texas State History Museum on June 9 in Austin.

Under the leadership and guidance of adviser Jodie Deinhammer, Eco Club students have diverted more than 5,400 pounds of hard-to-recycle materials from landfills and removed over 2,050 pounds of litter since 2021 through targeted recycling drives and monthly cleanups. The club also operates a campus garden and orchard that has produced and donated more than 1,560 pounds of fresh food, while maintaining a pocket prairie and monarch garden that restores native plants, supports pollinators, improves water infiltration and reduces erosion.
