Coppell ISD Trustees received updates on the district's 2026-2027 budget planning and reviewed a draft framework for technology use in classrooms during the June 8 Board Workshop.
Trustees discussed the draft 2026-2027 Budget and Compensation Plan, which includes an administrative recommendation for a 2% raise based on the midpoint of all pay grades across the district. If approved at the June 22 Regular Board Meeting, the proposed compensation adjustment would represent an approximately $2.2 million investment in employees. The draft plan also includes a recommended starting teacher salary of $65,000 for the 2026-2027 school year and incorporates Teacher Retention Allotment increases for eligible educators funded by the district.
The workshop also included a review of the district's draft general fund budget, which reflects ongoing efforts to balance compensation, staffing needs, inflationary costs and operational expenses while maintaining strong financial stewardship. The district has cut its budget by approximately $7 million through its work and predicts a budget deficit of $3.9 million for 2026-2027, which is a reduction of about 50% of the 2025-2026 budget deficit.
Trustees also received a preview of the district's draft Technology Use Guidelines and a summary of the work completed by the 2025-2026 CISD Technology Committee. The committee, composed of 50 teachers, staff members, parents, community members and board representatives, met throughout the school year to examine how technology can be used in balanced, intentional and developmentally appropriate ways to support student learning.
The presentation highlighted draft classroom technology-use guidelines by grade level, including recommended daily screen-time expectations for elementary students and class-period guidelines for middle and high school students. Trustees reviewed proposed practices designed to promote authentic learning experiences, hands-on engagement, critical thinking, collaboration and responsible technology use while maintaining alignment with state technology standards.
District leaders shared that additional work will continue throughout the summer to finalize the CISD Technology Framework, with staff training and implementation planned for the 2026-2027 school year. Trustees are expected to receive an update on the finalized framework and recommendations at an August 2026 board meeting.
