Coppell High School Debate is once again making its mark on the national and state stage with several students earning prestigious honors at the start of the 2025–2026 season.
CHS Senior Anjana Boppana has been named the top World Schools Debater in the nation by the National Speech and Debate Association after scoring the highest in last season’s competitions. As she enters her final season, she continues to place Coppell Debate on the national radar.
Sophomore Sidharta De was selected as one of only 12 underclassmen across the nation to join the USA National Development Team. This honor allows him to represent the United States in national and international competitions, while training for a future spot on the official National Team.
In addition, CHS Seniors Safiya Azam and Sivaank Pothukooch were chosen for Team Texas, a highly competitive state team made up of the best debaters from across Texas. With only 16 spots available, earning two of them is a significant achievement for Coppell Debate.
These accomplishments highlight the talent, dedication and leadership of Coppell Debate and its students, who continue to serve as ambassadors for our school, district and community at the state, national and international levels. The program is led by Debate Director Dr. Jason Sykes and Debate Coach SunHee Simon.
